Energy from the Sun warms water in lakes and oceans. During evaporation, liquid water changes into water vapor, a gas. As moist air cools, water vapor can condense into tiny liquid droplets that form clouds. When droplets grow large enough, they fall as rain, a form of precipitation. Water collects in lakes, rivers, and oceans, where it can evaporate again. This describes one possible path through the water cycle.
